5 Seconds of Summer no longer care if they're called a boy band.
5 Seconds of Summer have learnt a lot from One Direction.
The two bands are good friends, and 5 Seconds of Summer have toured with the Brit group on three occasions.
As One D fans prepare to say goodbye to the boys, 5SOS will no doubt be able to fill the gap they leave when they take a break next March. Luckily the Australian band have picked up plenty of tips from them.
“Their story is very different to ours. Their type of music is very different to ours as well. It’s a different type of journey, but to see how they’ve done it and the way they treat their touring crew is something we’ve learnt from. We just want everyone that works for us to be happy, and we wouldn’t have known how to do that unless we’d toured with One Direction,” they praised to Notion magazine.
5SOS have been making waves in the industry since 2013, dropping their debut self-titled album last year.
Made up of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin, the boys no longer worry about what their fans and press label them as.
“It’s all about not caring what people think and say. It’s like a f**k you to people who say you can’t be what you are. And to represent that, I don’t think we should carry on asking people not to call us a boy band. We learnt our instruments, we learnt how to write songs from scratch, we love performing live and we love f**king rocking out – that’s what we do, so at this stage, people can call us whatever they want,” they insisted.
