Lake Bell: No narcissists please

Lake Bell has listed honour, loyalty and honesty as the most important qualities in a man.

Lake Bell wouldn’t stand for narcissism in a partner.

The actress is currently starring in rom-com Man Up, which tells the story of a mistaken identity on a blind date.

When it comes to her own love life, Lake is happily married to Scott Campbell. It’s a given that he’s not too self absorbed, as vanity just won’t wash with the star.

“Narcissism is a deal-breaker. In a way it’s important for a man to have a dose of selfishness because there has to be self-loving in some capacity, but not narcissism.

“I tune out chat-up lines. They don’t work. Nobody really does them anymore, surely?” Lake said to British Esquire of her date turn-offs.

Lake and Scott welcomed daughter Nova in late 2014. They first met on TV show How to Make It in America, when tattoo artist Scott played himself.

While Lake doesn’t reveal her husband’s top traits, she did outline what she looks for in the opposite sex.

“Honour, loyalty and honesty are the most important qualities a man can have. It’s kind of clichéd because it’s true – those are the classics.

“I’ve never had a type but laughter is important. I like it when someone looks scary but then you realise they’re actually really funny. I have a pit bull just like that,” she smiled.

Next up for the actress is TV series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and three new films.

As she rises to become a prominent figure in Hollywood, the 36-year-old admits she can sometimes be high maintenance, but never when it comes to love.

“I like simpler, random acts of romance. I’ve always liked guys creating little artefacts not because it’s a special occasion but because it’s Tuesday. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, just funny and thoughtful,” she said.
