DeVito: I'm so selfish

Danny DeVito sees married life as being "all about the kids".

Danny DeVito thinks he is self-centred.

The legendary actor has been in the business for decades, having first made his name in comedy TV series Taxi. Since then he’s gone on to make classic movies such as Matilda, Twins and Terms of Endearment. And despite his advancing years, the 70-year-old still thinks the world revolves around him.

“I am self-centred. It’s like, ‘Here I am!’ Me, me, me, me, me, basically – bulls**t, bulls**t, bulls**t,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I was coming down the street the other day and saw a possum. Who the f**k cares about it? I want to tell you what happened to me!”

Danny has always liked to joke with people and it’s part of the charm that has helped him become something of a national treasure in America. However it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the star, as he and wife Rhea Perlman separated in October 2012 after 30 years of marriage and over 40 years together. While they reportedly reconciled in March 2013, one thing the father-of-three isn’t happy to talk about is their relationship.

“You can’t go there, anything that’s got to do with men and women, I don’t know nothin’” he said. “Got married ‘cause my mother was still around. Gonna have kids. Italians. Got married. Had a great time, 31, 32 years. Ain’t easy, it is? We had a lot of fun. Still have fun. But it’s all about the kids, man. That’s what happens.”

The couple, who have acted together on screen many times during their careers, have daughters Lucy, 31 and Grace, 29, as well as son Jacob, 27.
