Idris Elba often forgets he’s famous, but doesn't mind when fans come up to him in the street.
Idris Elba reasons working away from home makes family time even more precious.
As well as being a successful actor, Idris works extensively as a DJ. Last year he played a residency in Ibiza, which saw him commuting to and from The Avengers: Age of Ultron set in Hollywood.
On top of work commitments, the 42-year-old is also a proud family man. He has daughter Isan with ex-wife Kim, and welcomed son Winston last year with girlfriend Naiyana Garth.
“That’s just a lot of logistics,” he reasoned to the British edition of Marie Claire when asked how he balances work and family life. “I’ve always worked away a great deal, so you have to work around it. It makes being around family time much more precious.”
Idris found international fame as Russell ‘Stringer’ Bell in TV show The Wire. He’s gone on to carve out a Hollywood movie career, as well as wowing TV audiences with the hugely successful British series Luther.
While he may be instantly recognisable, Idris often forgets he’s famous – until he’s reminded by his adoring fans.
“It’s like walking into a pub with a bright-red suit on. You love your suit, but you know you are just being stared at. That’s how I feel about it. I love what I do. People give me a lot of love and come up to me in the street, but you have to get used to that. I’ll walk into a pub and I forget I have a public image,” he explained.
