Meghan Trainor: I touched queen Bey

Meghan Trainor found meeting Beyoncé Knowles to be “just like a movie”.

Meghan Trainor “blacked out” when she met Beyoncé Knowles.

The Lips Are Movin singer was introduced to the superstar performer at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in December last year. And for the 21-year-old, the experience was nothing short of surreal.

“[It was] just like a movie. She was touching my hands – I touched Beyoncé’s hands!” she told British magazine Heat. “She said her and her daughter [Blue Ivy] jam to my songs and my music videos, then I died. I blacked out. I loved it. I think I said ‘I love your baby, what a beautiful baby you have, thank you’. I panicked!”

Meghan had a crazy 2014 after making her mark with debut single All About That Bass. And this year looks like it’s set to follow suit, with two Grammy nominations and collaborations with other major stars, including One Direction’s Harry Styles.

“Harry’s an excellent writer. He’s amazing,” she gushed to the outlet. “It’s a beautiful ukulele song that I hope people get to hear someday. I came in with a song all kind of prepared, called Someday Maybe. I was so nervous and he was like, ‘I love it. It’s perfect,’ and I was like ‘Uhhh’ It was great.”

While Meghan and the 21-year-old heartthrob gelled in the studio, she insists that everything was kept purely professional.

“It was the only time I hung out with this kid, and they’re like ‘Are you dating?’ I’m like ‘No, what?’” she laughed. “We hung out for a couple of hours and he wrote the verses with me. His lyric game is incredible, he’s an amazing songwriter.”
