Reese Witherspoon has spoken about how upsetting it was to end her marriage with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
Reese Witherspoon felt as if her brain were “scrambled eggs” while going through divorce.
The Walk the Line actress ended her eight-year marriage with fellow actor Ryan Phillippe in 2007.
And when their divorce was finalised, Reese felt like she needed some space to recuperate.
“I spent a few years just trying to feel better … you can’t really be creative when you feel like your brain is scrambled eggs,” the 38-year-old blonde revealed in a forthcoming interview on TV show 60 Minutes.
Reese starred in just four movies between 2008 and 2011.
At the time, the realised she reached a bit of an impasse professionally speaking.
“I was just kind of floundering career-wise … I wasn’t making things I was passionate about,” Reese shared. “And it was really clear that audiences weren’t responding to anything I was putting out there.”
The Academy Award-winning actress came to another realisation in 2012, when The New Yorker published a piece listing actors who were no longer big stars.
Reese felt really low when she found her name in the article.
“I thought I was reading, like, a profile on another actor,” she recalled. “Then somewhere down at the end it said … ‘the people who are washed-up’ – I mean, it really hurt my feelings.”
Now Reese is receiving Oscar buzz for her work in new biographical drama, Wild. The movie tells the true story of Cheryl Strayed, who went on a 1,100-mile solo hike.
Reese is mother to three children. She shares daughter Ava and son Deacon with ex Ryan and is also parent to son Tennessee with her current husband, Jim Toth.
