5 Seconds of Summer still find it incredible that people listen to their music.
5 Seconds of Summer will never seek approval or recognition.
The Aussie four-piece have enjoyed a phenomenal 2014, with their debut self-titled album topping numerous charts around the globe following its released earlier this year.
Members Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin are thrilled with their growing success, especially as they have remained true to their own sound.
“We love that some of our fans are following rock music and discovering new bands. We’ve never really sought approval or any type of recognition because in time, people will grow to understand us. We’ll always defend what we believe in, but we’ve learned it’s more effective to do that through actions,” they explained to Rocksound magazine.
“There have been signs that people are ‘getting it’, like when people we look up to and respect as musicians want to write a song with us. To be honest, we still think it’s an incredible thing that people even listen to us at all!”
Overall they rate 2014 a ten out of ten, describing joining One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour as “an adventure of epic proportions”. It was the Brit group’s invite which saw 5 Seconds of Summer gain even more attention and land a whole new fanbase; something the guys will be forever grateful for.
“Playing at the huge venues they were headlining was such an insane thing. You learn loads and push yourselves to be a better band every day,” they gushed. “That tour helped us so much and we’ll always be thankful to those lads for letting us show their audience a rock show.”
