Grammy nominations announced

The 2015 Grammy nominations have been announced in part.

Iggy Azalea is in with a chance of winning a Grammy this year.

The awards might not be taking place until February 8 2015, but it’s already generating buzz by releasing a partial list of nominees.

Among them is Australian rapper Iggy, who is in with a chance of bagging the award for Record of the Year with her hit Fancy, featuring Charli XCX. It’s been an eventful 2014 for the 24-year-old, who has collaborated with the likes of Ariana Grande and Jennifer Lopez and endured celebrity spats with musicians including Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg.

But it’s not a dead cert for the star – she faces competition from Sia with Chandelier, a Darkchild Remix of Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, Taylor Swift with Shake It Off and Meghan Trainor with All About That Bass.

Iggy is up for Best New Artist as well, facing Brit band Bastille, Sam Smith, girl group HAIM and Brandy Clark.

Miley Cyrus has had tongues wagging all year with her antics, so it’s no surprise her LP Bangerz is nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.

Also in with a chance are Ed Sheeran with x, Katy Perry with Prism, Ariana Grande with My Everything, Coldplay with Ghost Stories and Sam Smith with In the Lonely Hour.

The Best Country Album could go to Miranda Lambert with Platinum, Brandy Clark with 12 Stories, Dierks Bentley with Riser, Eric Church with The Outsiders or Lee Ann Womack with The Way I’m Livin’.

It’s no wonder that queen Beyoncé Knowles appears in the Best Urban Contemporary Album category with her self-titled record. Also up for the honour are Chris Brown with X, Pharrell Williams with G I R L, Mali Music with Mali Is… and Jhené Aiko with Sail Out.

Best Pop Solo Performance was announced by Ryan Seacrest and could go to John Legend, Sia, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift or Pharrell Williams.

Further categories will slowly be announced throughout the day via Twitter. Following this 82 of the 83 categories will be available on the official Grammy website.

Saving the best for last, the artists nominated for Album of the Year will be announced on A Very Grammy Christmas, a holiday special which airs in the US tonight.
