Jack O'Connell: I want to be like Jolie

Jack O'Connell thinks it would have been "insane" to film a scene with Brad Pitt.

Jack O’Connell find Angelina Jolie’s family ethos “contagious”.

The 24-year-old actor stars in drama Unbroken, which the Hollywood actress directed. Meeting Angelina, her husband Brad Pitt and their six children changed things for Jack.

“Working with Angie, I’d like to think I didn’t have expectations, but then if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have been surprised to the level I was when I met her,” he reasoned to Total Film magazine.

“She presented herself as a total equal from the beginning, and I saw her carry out that same attitude on set.

“And her fella and the family, her kids – there’s an ethos they have that’s a bit contagious. There was even a time where [Brad] was going to be on the aircraft with us, with dialogue or not. That would’ve been insane!”

Jack portrays Olympic runner and American World War II prisoner Louis Zamperini, who survived 47 days at sea. He had to lose weight for the part, which proved hard.

“Three months before shooting started, I began to diet,” he recalled. “It’s not fun, and it plays with your thinking a lot. If you whittle down the calories, your energy depletes. But no one ever told me it was going to be easy. I was never lied to. When we started filming, I even blacked out during a couple of scenes. But thankfully by the third time, people were poised and ready.”

Jack has come a long way since appearing on British TV show Skins. He also stars alongside Cara Delevingne in the upcoming Tulip Fever.
