Alicia Keys thinks she and husband Swizz Beatz are "kindred spirits".
Alicia Keys assures people it’s “possible” to forge a relationship with your partner’s ex.
The 33-year-old singer and her husband Swizz Beatz have son Egypt together and another baby on the way, while he also has three kids from previous relationships.
She was previously targeted by Swizz’s ex-wife Mashonda, who criticised Alicia for not allowing Swizz to work on his marriage before they divorced in 2008; the same year he is thought to have struck up a romance with Alicia.
But now the two ladies have made up and are staying strong for the sake of Egypt, and Mashonda and Swizz’s son, Kaseem Jr.
“You know what I think it really is? It’s about the kids: when everybody is able to be an adult, which we all are able to be, and we’re able to really recognise that actually, there’s a beautiful value about the way that we can all influence each other’s lives and the lives of the kids," Alicia explained to talk show host Wendy Williams. "They can really see that they have more than one woman to look to and say, ‘What can I learn here?’ ‘What can I learn there?’ and guidance and love. And it’s fatherhood and motherhood and it’s friendship. It’s really, really important and I think it’s so beautiful. It doesn’t always work but it’s totally possible. And it can work when everybody really wants to do the right thing for the children.”
The star, who is currently promoting her children’s book Blue Moon: From the Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee, took the time to gush about her husband, too. The pair tied the knot in 2010 and Alicia couldn’t be happier.
“We’ve known each other forever, so I think that’s always the thing that kinda makes us feel like we just have kindred spirits," Alicia smiled.
