Carey Mulligan: Trust yourself

Carey Mulligan has shared her tips for success after winning at Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards.

Carey Mulligan advises young actresses to follow their instincts.

The British superstar was last night crowned Harper’s Bazaar’s Inspiration at the publication’s Women of the Year Awards.

Looking stunning in an Erdem dress with cut-out detail by her midriff, 29-year-old Carey shared her tips for budding young thespians.

“With actors and actresses, people are trying to lead you in different directions. You know yourself what is best and should follow the choices that you believe in,” Carey explained at the ceremony.

“So much of my career has been about great female roles in male-driven stories. So I’m excited when people I have been working with recently… get female stories told.”

The awards were a star-studded affair, with Margot Robbie, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Victoria Beckham all in attendance.

Diane von Furstenberg scooped the prize for Fashion Icon, while Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie went home with the British actress gong.

Carey is also gracing the front cover of the latest issue of the glossy magazine and she speaks openly about how she stumbled upon her chosen career.

“Acting’s what I started doing when I was six years old and at a certain point you realise you can do it for a living. And from then on I was like: ‘Well, I’ll do that then.’ I wanted to do musical theatre. That was the dream. I still go to musical theatre and just cry. I love it so much," she gushed.
