Taylor Swift has joked she feels like a paramedic when dealing with overzealous fans.
Taylor Swift sometimes worries over-excited fans are having a “fit”.
The singer is one of the biggest popstars on the planet and her eagerly-awaited new album, 1989, is due out at the end of this month.
She’s teased there will also be big news in five days’ time, which is sure to send many of her followers into overdrive. And while the 24-year-old is flattered by the attention, she occasionally fears people get too worked up when they meet her.
“I’m cool, as long as it doesn’t seem there’s a medical issue at hand,” she joked to BBC Radio 1, when asked how she deals with overzealous fans. “Sometimes I have to check, ‘OK, your hands are shaking. Is this you being excited or do I need to call an ambulance?’ Like, sometimes it crosses over to, ‘Is this how you get excited or are you having some sort of fit?’”
She added with a laugh that she sometimes feels like a part-time paramedic.
To keep her grounded, Taylor has beloved cats Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, named after her favourite TV characters. Olivia is the newest addition and she admits there was some initial feline animosity between her furry friends.
“My parents are watching them,” she smiled. “It’s nice to have two. For the first months there were issues, there was a competitive relationship. Now they are friends; now I don’t feel bad leaving them behind.”
Taylor is currently over in the UK for promotional duties and also graces the cover of British Vogue. She was very open in the accompanying interview for the magazine, and says it’s because she’s in such a great place right now.
“I don’t really have anything to hide. It’s understood that anything I do will be discussed,” she shrugged.
“I’m proud of the way my life is. I’m 24, single, feeling very independent. A lot of fun things have happened in my life
“When there’s not much to avoid, no boyfriend to ask about, it takes the pressure off.”
She added her single Shake It Off is all about ignoring the opinions of negative people.
