Hilary Duff "doesn't know what to say" about ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter professing his love for her.
Hilary Duff finds Aaron Carter’s declarations of love “uncomfortable”.
The 27-year-old dated the singer as a teenager but the couple broke up more than a decade ago, after he reportedly cheated on her. Earlier this year, Aaron, now 26, spoke on a number of occasions about still having feelings for his former flame.
“It’s… ugh! I don’t know. I don’t know what to say about it!” she began during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live. “It was so many years ago. I literally haven’t seen him in… So, it’s uncomfortable.”
Hilary married Canadian ice hockey player Mike Comrie in 2010 and the couple had son Luca together in 2012. Soon after the couple announced their split at the start of this year, Aaron started talking about his feelings for her on Twitter.
“I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to better myself to get back to her. I don’t care what any of you think,” Aaron wrote on the social media website. “Don’t be that stupid d****e that loses the love of your life forever, like me.”
During Hilary’s appearance on the show, fellow guest Giada De Laurentiis admitted she didn’t know the former teen stars used to be an item. But the Lizzie McGuire actress was quick to fill her in.
“Oh, yes! Oh yes, yes, yes, I did, when I was 13!” she said. “[He] was very sweet… when I was 13.”
While the star never responded to the Crush on You singer’s tweets, it didn’t stop him from elaborating on his feelings in interviews.
“Absolutely, I don’t know who she is today, she doesn’t know who I am today but I would sweep her off her feet if I ever got a chance to again and fix what I did wrong,” he said in April to Entertainment Tonight.
But more recently, he seemed to realise how his comments may have been received.
“Obviously, we were a thing when we were younger, but we don’t know each other now. I get how it could be weird. So I’m going to leave it at that; there’s nothing really for me to say,” he told RadarOnline.
