Neil Patrick Harris and his long-time partner David Burtka have finally tied the knot after ten years together.
Neil Patrick Harris has married his long-time partner.
The 41-year-old actor and David Burtka have been an item for ten years and have fraternal twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, three, together.
They have now finally tied the knot and the actor shared the happy news on his Twitter account.
“Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband.’ (sic)” he wrote to his followers.
A representative of the actor also confirmed the nuptials to People, adding they were surrounded by “close friends and family”.
Both men are said to have worn custom-made Tom Ford tuxedos for the special day and had Pam Fryman, a close friend and long-time director of How I Met Your Mother, which Neil starred in, officiate the vows.
The couple’s kids joined in the celebrations, and one big highlight of the occasion was Sir Elton John performing a song at the reception.
Their wedding follows gay marriage being legalised in New York in 2011, which Neil shared his delight over at the time.
“It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!!” he tweeted. “David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date. (sic)”
