Lady Gaga has paid tribute to her late friend Amy Winehouse on Twitter.
Lady Gaga imagines Amy Winehouse “singing the blues in heaven”.
The British singer passed away in 2011 aged 27 from alcohol intoxication. Yesterday marked the three-year anniversary of her death and singer Gaga remembered her late friend on Twitter.
“Rest in Peace Amy Winehouse I’ll always think about you, imagine u singing the blues in heaven in a happier place. I loved you and still do (sic),” she wrote on Twitter.
Gaga, 28, spoke touchingly about her friend shortly after her passing. She said hearing Amy had died “devastated” her.
“I’m a huge fan. She was my only hope when I was up and coming. Nobody knew who I was and I had no fans, no record label and everybody, when they met me, said I wasn’t pretty enough or that my voice was too low or strange. They had nowhere to put me,” she opened up to Rolling Stone at the time.
“And then I saw her in Rolling Stone and I saw her live. I just remember thinking, ‘Well, they found somewhere to put Amy…
“She’s really special. She just gave me a lot of hope and she deserved a lot better than what people gave her. And I hope that the world learns a lesson from this. I really hope they do. Because it’s not her lesson to learn – it’s the world’s.”
Yesterday Amy’s father Mitch spoke out on the anniversary of her death, saying he still “senses” his daughter’s presence.
