Jared Leto says his friendship with Lupita Nyong'o is a "very special thing".
Jared Leto feels a bond with Lupita Nyong’o because they’re both “the class of 2014”.
The actor has stock-piled prizes this awards season thanks to his role as transgender AIDS victim Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club. Lupita’s turn in 12 Years a Slave has also seen her lauded, with the pair taking home the best supporting actor and actress Oscars.
They have also battled romance rumours, which were reignited when they flirted on stage at last night’s MTV Movie Awards – where Lupita presented Jared with his best on-screen transformation prize.
“We were both nominated for Academy Awards and that makes it a very special thing. You share a class, right? It’s like the class of 2014,” he explained to the American edition of OK! magazine. “I’ve made incredible connections with people, some of my heroes. Meeting people like Bruce Dern, Robert Redford, who called me the other day and shared some words and wisdom with me. It’s a very special thing to have that happen. That’s one of the nice things about it.”
When accepting his prize, Jared commented it was “an award in itself” to be handed it by Lupita.
Mark Wahlberg kept things light when accepting the generation award, which was in honour of his lengthy acting career. He paid tribute to his wife Rhea Durham, admitting he still has no idea how he managed to wed a Victoria’s Secret model.
In a profanity-full speech, he also joked about the true meaning of his gong.
“I know what this really means…this is the ‘you’re-too-f**king-old-to-come-back’ award,” he laughed. “This is not the ‘Channing-Tatum-you’re-dancing-around-chicks-want-you’ award. This is the ‘you’re-f**king-done award’. But look, it was a great run.”
Another notable appearance at the ceremony came courtesy of Mila Kunis, who appeared to confirm the speculation she is having a baby with her fiancé Ashton Kutcher by cradling her stomach.
