Shailene Woodley welcomes comparisons to her friend, Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence.
Shailene Woodley views her pal Jennifer Lawrence as a “strong badass woman”.
The 22-year-old actress stars as Tris Prior in the highly-anticipated sci-fi action film Divergent.
Many are comparing her performance to Jennifer’s depiction of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, and Shailene welcomes this likening.
“If they’re gonna compare me to anybody I guess Jen is the perfect one,” she revealed during a video interview with ET Online.
“She’s pretty badass and a strong woman so I’m not complaining.”
Divergent is a dystopian film based on author Veronica Roth’s eponymous young adult novel, which sees citizens in a future Chicago segregated based on their personalities.
Shailene previously confessed she may not have taken on a role in the movie without having been talked into it by Academy Award-winner Jennifer.
“[I talked with JLaw. She] said: ‘You must do it. You will not regret it for a second. Yes, there are some hard things, but there are so many beautiful things that will come from an opportunity like this,’” Shailene recalled to The Hollywood Reporter recently.
But the star feels fortunate to have taken Jennifer’s advice, as she discovered a lot about herself after depicting Tris.
“I grew up with two psychologist parents so empathy, compassion, selflessness was sort of ingrained into my brain at a very young age. And so I relate to Tris’ struggle between being a fighter and yet maintaining her sense of empathy,” Shailene explained to ET.
Divergent, which also stars Kate Winslet, is released in US theatres March 21.
