Jared Leto is now keeping his Academy Award trophy safe after damaging the statue shortly after it was received.
Jared Leto has already managed to “nick” his Oscar trophy.
The 42-year-old star took home the Best Supporting Actor prize at Sunday night’s 86th Academy Awards ceremony for his portrayal of transgender AIDS sufferer Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.
But unfortunately the pristine condition of the award itself was marred soon after he received it.
“True story: I was letting some of the people that I work with take a picture with the Oscar, and I was carrying [the trophy] downstairs and boom – I hit the railing on the stars and I put a little nick in the back of it,” Jared told Entertainment Tonight Canada.
“It’s already lived in, as they say.”
The star reveals he has the statue on display in quite an unlikely place in his home.
Jared doesn’t feel the need to put the Oscar in a safe or on a mantel, as he would rather see it somewhere he frequents.
“The Oscar is sitting in my kitchen guarded by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn,” he said.
“That is the first place I go when I go home, you put your keys down, you take off your jacket and you put your Oscar in your kitchen.”
Backstage at the Academy Awards, Jared invited people to take “selfies” with his trophy.
Although he is now delighting in revelry over the win, during his acceptance speech he paid a serious tribute to his mother, the cast and crew of Dallas Buyers Club, and people around the world sharing his character’s struggle.
“To the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and those out there who have ever faced injustice for who you are and who you love, I stand here for you tonight," Jared said.
Days after his Oscar win, the star announced his band Thirty Second to Mars is performing concerts with Linkin Park this summer on a joint roadshow called the Carnivores Tour.
