Leonardo DiCaprio credits his mother with his success in the wake of his Golden Globes win.
Leonardo DiCaprio says his mother is “the only reason” he’s a movie star.
The actor won his second Golden Globe on Sunday night for his performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
According to Leo, none of his fame and recognition would have happened without the support of his mother, Irmelin, who was his date for the night.
“I wouldn’t be doing any of this if it weren’t for her, both my parents,” he told Access Hollywood. “She supported this little kid who said, ‘I want to be an actor,’ at 12-years-old, which is ridiculous, and she drove me to all these auditions. She’s the only reason I’m able to do what I do,” he said.
The 39-year-old is known for his love of dating supermodels, something Globe co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a raunchy joke about during the ceremony in a move that may have made his mother red-faced.
“And now, like a supermodel’s vagina, let’s all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio,” Tina quipped.
Leo admitted he thought the gag was hilarious. But he insisted that despite all the attention paid to his love life, his mother couldn’t care less.
“That was pretty cool. Any joke from them is OK in my book,” he laughed, adding of his mother, “It’s irrelevant to her what I do.”
