Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie have ended their marriage.
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie have ended their relationship after three years of marriage.
The actress and her hockey-pro husband are said to have grown apart, despite undergoing couple’s therapy.
Hilary and Mike will continue to be friends and co-parent their son Luca Cruz Comrie, according to an official statement.
“They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time,” Hilary’s rep said in a statement to People magazine.
The 26-year-old is said to be on very amicable terms with Mike, with no one thing in particular leading to the split.
The decision to end the marriage is apparently a mutual one, and both sides are in agreement that it’s the best thing to do.
“There was no major incident – no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart,” a source revealed. “They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couple’s therapy, but in the end, they realised at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends.”
Hilary has spoken previously about how important it is to continuously work on a relationship. After giving birth to their son in March 2012, she explained how difficult it was to find time just as a couple.
“We go out like once a week together and try and do something fun,” Hilary told E! in June 2012. “We either go to dinner… we’re going to go bowling next week. It’s weird scheduling so much because we used to do things on a whim and no we have to schedule. But it’s good. It’s really important for your relationship.”
