Whether it was twerking performances or a new album - we shed some light on the year of the singer.
Hardly any other artist has made the headlines as often as Miley Cyrus in the past 12 months – despite some serious competition in the shape of Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber. Yet Miley Cyrus indisputably offered the greatest potential for both positive and negative headlines.
The 21 year old achieved the complete transformation from Disney star Hannah Montana to adult artist in 2013. Her appearance in particular underwent a major change. She surprised her fans with a short Pixie haircut and mostly sported pretty risqué outfits. However, her interpretation of the grown-up Miley Cyrus ensured many concerned faces and outraged parents, especially in the USA. After all, the singer is still the idol of millions of teenage girls, whereas, in the eyes of their parents, she really is no good as a role model.
From a musical perspective, things were a lot more pleasant in the year 2013. Her fourth studio album ‘Bangerz’ topped the charts in nine countries and even achieved Platinum status in Canada. Her personal development is also evident in ‘Bangerz’; in contrast to her previous albums, it features a lot less Country and a lot more Pop and Hip Hop. Of course, the sales of ‘Bangerz’ were fuelled by the scandalous appearances of Miley Cyrus. Her twerking performance with Robin Thicke at the VMA is probably one of the most frequently discussed appearances of the year.
Miley Cyrus’ private life has also seen a good bit of action in 2013. The singer split up with her fiancé Liam Hemsworth in September. The couple met in 2009 when filming the movie ‘The Last Song’.
In spite of this rollercoaster ride, Miley Cyrus can tick off the year 2013 as a success. In the past few months, she has taken home a number of prizes, such as the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Video, and if she wasn’t before, she certainly is a superstar now.
