Brandon Flowers insists that the bathroom is not the proper place to start an in-depth discussion with one of your icons.
Brandon Flowers didn’t talk to Tony Bennett when he saw him in the men’s room as it’s a “tough time” to have a chat.
The Killers frontman is a big fan of the iconic crooner and couldn’t believe it when they came face to face in the bathroom. Although Brandon would have loved to spark up a discussion with the 87-year-old star, he believes he did the right thing.
“I stood at a urinal next to Tony Bennett and we relieved ourselves at the same time. It was silent, it’s a tough time to start a conversation with somebody. But it was Tony Bennett, it was crazy!” he laughed to Q magazine.
Brandon’s bandmate was quick to jump in with his own famous bathroom tale.
“Mine was Brad Pitt. Yep, at Live 8,” drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. laughed.
Brandon was also quizzed on his stage performances, with some of his moves called into question. While he disputes the claim that standing on his tiptoes so he can reach the microphone is one of his signature moves, he admits removing any expensive jewellery before shaking hands with the crowd.
“I don’t think I’m trying to reach the microphone when I do that! That might just be some weird nervous tic that I have. It is one of my ‘moves’? It may be a move but the microphone differs in height, it’s all up to whoever is putting it out there,” he laughed.
“I’ve lost a bracelet or two. I won’t say in which town. I don’t want to get into trouble… OK, it was Newcastle [in the UK]! I don’t wanna lose my wedding ring! I put them back on after the gig.”
