Nicole Kidman has opened up about the strain on her marriage to Tom Cruise.
Nicole Kidman’s marriage to Tom Cruise was “intoxicating” and “deeply romantic”.
The American actress tied the knot with the action star when she was just 23 in 1990. They met on the set of their 1989 movie Days of Thunder and adopted daughter Isabella James and son Connor Anthony during their time together.
Nicole admits their relationship was a struggle due to the attention surrounding them and can relate to other A-list couples who are in a similar situation.
“There is something about that sort of existence that, if you really focus on each other and you’re in that bubble, it’s very intoxicating, because it’s just the two of you. And there is only one other person that’s going through it,” she explained to the December issue of Vanity Fair magazine. “So it brings you very close, and it’s deeply romantic. I’m sure Brad [Pitt] and Angelina [Jolie] have that – because there’s nobody else that understands it except that person who’s sleeping right next to you.”
Nicole and Tom eventually divorced in 2001 and the 46-year-old actress is now married to country musician Keith Urban, with whom she has daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
She learnt a lot from her first husband and appreciated the space in between her two weddings, which helped her to fall in love again.
“I was so young. And you know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I’ve met my great love now. And I really did not know if that was going to happen,” she confessed.
“I wanted it, but I didn’t want it for a while, because I didn’t want to jump from one relationship to another. I had a lot of time alone, which was really, really good, because I was a child, really, when I got married. And I needed to grow up.”
