Rihanna and Swift lead AMAs

Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake are all in the running for a 2013 AMA.

Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake have been nominated for multiple American Music Awards.

Kelly Clarkson and will.i.am have announced those in the running for the first five categories of the 2013 ceremony. They appeared on TV show Good Morning America to reveal the news, with further nominations coming later today.

Rihanna and Taylor will battle it out for the best pop/rock female trophy, with Pink also in the running.

In the male soul/R&B category, Justin is facing stiff competition from Miguel and Robin Thicke.

Justin, Taylor and Rihanna have all received a mention in the artist of the year section, alongside Bruno Mars and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

Also confirmed are those in the running for the prestigious single of the year gong. In 2013, the prize will go to either Florida Georgia Line, featuring Nelly, for Cruise, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Wanz, for Thrift Shop, or Robin Thicke with Pharrell and T.I. for Blurred Lines.

Ariana Grande got a mention in the best new artist category, alongside Florida Georgia Line, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Phillip Phillips.

The 2013 AMAs will be staged on Sunday November 24 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Miley Cyrus and Imagine Dragons will perform on the night.
