Kanye West has reportedly hired celebrity lawyer Shawn Holley to represent him in a civil suit filed against the rapper by paparazzo Daniel Ramos.
Kanye West has reportedly hired Lindsay’s Lohan’s attorney to handle his battery case.
The rapper was involved in a physical altercation with paparazzo Daniel Ramos at Los Angeles International Airport on July 19.
TMZ claims prosecutors filed criminal charges against him and photographer Ramos has a civil suit pending for assault, battery, negligence and interference with his civil rights.
Radar Online reports the lyricist isn’t taking any chances and has hired high-powered celebrity lawyer Shawn Holley to fight the civil case.
Kanye has filed a response to Ramos’ suit, stating: “Daniel Ramos is not entitled to relief on any of the claims set forth in the complaint because at the time and place mentioned in the complaint, Daniel Ramos willfully and wrongfully caused Kanye West to reasonably believe his safety was in immediate danger.
“Kanye West responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defence and safety and was justified in doing those acts.”
Holley previously represented Lindsay Lohan in several criminal cases, most recently stepping in to negotiate a plea deal stemming from the actress’ June 2012 car accident.
Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred is representing Ramos in his case against the rapper.
Video footage of the incident shows Kanye asking for the man to stop talking to him as he’s followed to his car by several photographers before a physical altercation unfolds.
Last month, Allred held a press conference in which she claimed her client suffered injuries in the altercation forcing him to rely on a cane to walk.
Kanye is reportedly seeking to have no costs awarded to Ramos in his response. If he wins the civil case, the rapper will still have to answer to prosecutors.
He could face up to a year in jail if convicted of attempted grand theft and criminal battery, according to Radar. Both charges are misdemeanours.
The rapper’s arraignment is scheduled for October 10. Attorney Blair Berk is representing him in the criminal case.
