Zac Efron’s 80-year-old uncle knew about the star’s alcohol addiction.
Zac Efron’s great-uncle thinks alcohol addiction is worse than a drug problem.
The 25-year-old High School Musical actor allegedly completed a stint in rehab five months ago and it was initially claimed he had a problem with drink.
Zac’s relative is somewhat calmed now that he has seemingly battled his demons.
“He’s a great fellow. I knew about it. I’m glad he came out and talked about it,” Joe Glidden told Celebuzz.
“Alcohol is a strange thing. It can really bite you. Alcohol is worse than any of these drugs.”
Despite some outlets claiming the star was treated for a cocaine problem and the party pill Molly, Joe isn’t aware of that supposed abuse.
He reassured fans that Zac’s mother Starla Baskett is his rock.
“His mother Starla is right there with him,” the 80-year-old shared. “They’re pretty close. She grabbed a hold of that. She was on top of it. She’s right here with him all the way.’”
Although the heartthrob has the guidance of his loved ones, Joe is still concerned about his great-nephew.
He knows that fame can make the recovery process much harder than it would be for someone outside the spotlight.
“It’s tough for someone like me to be involved as the uncle. I’m concerned. In my own thoughts I worried about him,” he confessed.
“The pressure is really on him. I couldn’t take all of that pressure and hype.”
Zac’s relative is sympathetic to his plight and has nothing but kind words for him.
“Being an alcoholic, it’s a disease. It could happen to anyone. That’s a problem a lot of people have," Joe added.
“I’m glad he came out and got rid of the problem. I love him very much. I’m one of his fans.”
