Amanda Bynes reportedly cancelled her court appearance Friday because she wants her psych meds to kick in before addressing the judge.
Amanda Bynes reportedly doesn’t want to appear in court before her medication takes effect.
The troubled 27-year-old actress was placed under a 5150 hold on Monday night after setting fire to an elderly woman’s driveway in Thousand Oaks, California. The law allows those who have been deemed to be a threat to themselves or others to be involuntarily detained for up to 72 hours of psychiatric evaluation.
On Thursday a judge granted a request made by her doctors to extend her psychiatric hold from the standard 72 hours to a full two weeks. Medical professionals supposedly believe she is suffering from schizophrenia and they need the extra time to properly evaluate the star.
According to TMZ, Amanda requested a 2pm appointment with the court on Friday to plead her case for freedom. Apparently she cancelled the hearing, as she doesn’t want to speak to a judge until her “meds to kick in”. With clarity of mind she and her lawyers are hoping to persuade the magistrate that she should be set free.
Amanda’s move is significant as this is the first time she has ever acknowledged potentially suffering from mental illness.
Also on Friday Amanda’s parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, were denied the right to become Amanda’s temporary conservators by Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen M. Reiser.
People magazine reported that the magistrate was in no rush to push conservatorship because Amanda’s health is still being evaluated.
“I need to have a dialogue with [the actress] to gauge the propriety of a conservatorship to move forward,” Judge Reiser said. “There are issues of liberty and property.”
Amanda is due to appear in court to free herself of the psychiatric hold on August 1.
Amanda is also scheduled to attend a hearing in New York on September 26 to face charges of reckless endangerment, attempted tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana after she was accused of throwing a bong out of her apartment window in front of police.
