Rosario Dawson ‘fought for self-confidence’

Rosario Dawson claims she had to work hard at developing her high self-esteem.

Rosario Dawson “wasn’t born self-confident”.

The 34-year-old Sin City actress is renowned the world over for her exotic beauty and exceptional talent.

She is also regarded for having an incredibly engaging personality.

Rosario believes her city of origin and the compassion she holds for herself has a lot to do with her high self-esteem.

“I’m a New Yorker! But in all seriousness, you have to be your own best friend. You can’t expect someone else to love you if you don’t love yourself,” Rosario told Parade magazine.

Rosario claims she wasn’t always so self-assured.

In the past she struggled to conquer a number of personal obstacles.

“It’s not easy – everybody fights insecurities,” the star explained.

“There was a lot of depression in my family growing up, and that was a hurdle for me to overcome. I wasn’t born self-confident – I fought for it.”

Rosario encourages others to find the greatness in themselves and their lives.

She doesn’t believe that people are stuck where they are.

“So to anyone who feels at her worst right now, realise there’s a way out. I wasn’t at my best either,” she recalled. “It took the right mentors and the natural growing pains of life to get where I am. Everyone can get there. You’ll get there. Believe it.”

Rosario is currently filming Finally Famous in New York City with American comedian Chris Rock.
