Amanda Bynes 'recovering'

Amanda Bynes appears to be making good progress under psychiatric observation.

Amanda Bynes “seems to be doing well” in hospital.

The troubled actress was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold earlier this week.

Under the legislation, people who are deemed a risk to themselves or others can be kept under observation for up to 72 hours. It appears Amanda is adapting to her surroundings.

“Amanda seems to be doing well,” a hospital source told Fox News about the star’s progress.

Amanda was detained after she started a fire outside a home in the Thousand Oaks area of California on Monday night.

Although it was initially thought the incident wasn’t high risk, reports have since indicated gasoline was involved.

The 27-year-old was then admitted to hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

A treatment plan is reportedly currently being discussed while Amanda continues her hospital stay.

“The thing with Amanda is that it isn’t as bizarre as it seems,” the source added. “She knows when to pull it together and act normal.”

Earlier today eyewitness reports emerged revealing the shocking extent of Amanda’s self-destructive behaviour.

“I see this girl with her pant leg on fire and a gas can trailing fire through the driveway,” Andrew Liverpool told E! News.

“She was laying down right here trying to roll or do something to take off the fire from her pants. Her pants were on fire. I quickly pull over to go help her and when I got over here. She put the fire out on her leg and was rushing over to her dog. I kicked the gas can over and moved it to the middle of the driveway so nothing else would catch on fire. And I said, ‘Are you OK?’ She was kind of frantic and discombobulated, and many people rushed over to try to assess the situation and when I looked back up, she was gone.”

5150 is a section of the California Welfare code which regulates involuntary hospitalisation.

Britney Spears was placed under the same order when she suffered her public meltdown.
