Joe Manganiello: True Blood is a juggernaut

Joe Manganiello is relieved he already had a large fan base when starting on True Blood.

Joe Manganiello says joining True Blood was like “jumping on a moving train”.

The hunky actor plays werewolf Alcide Herveaux in the popular vampire TV series.

True Blood is based on a series of novels entitled The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, with his popular character giving Joe a handy head start.

“The show was huge! [When] I joined in the third season, the show was already huge; it was like jumping on a moving train. My character already had a lot of fans from the book – there was an in-built fan base,” he explained to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.

“I auditioned for another werewolf part first. Fans of the books took to the internet and started saying who they would like in the cast and fans started posting pictures of me from other projects.”

Joe, 36, regularly strips off for the show, meaning fans get a good glimpse at his washboard abs.

Unsurprisingly his appearance goes down well with the ladies and Joe recalled the strangest encounter he’s had so far.

“There’s lots of crazy stuff! A couple of years ago I did Comic-Con and a woman came up to me with this very dead stare and she said she had heard that wolf saliva, when wolves lick each other, their wounds heal quicker,” he laughed.

“Then, with those dead eyes, she said: ‘Will you lick me?’ Now, she didn’t say where! I didn’t wanna know – security got her out of there!”

Hunky Joe is currently dating model Bridget Peters.

“I’m attached! How much fun would that be [if I was single], I could lick ’em all!” he quipped.
