Jason Derülo: I'm so lucky

Jordin Sparks helped Jason Derülo through his accident by making staying in bed "easier".

Jason Derülo sometimes feels like he needs to write a sad song to even out his good fortune.

The singer fractured a vertebrae in his neck while practising an energetic dance routine last year, causing a life-threatening injury.

Jason’s girlfriend Jordin Sparks helped him through the recovery process and sometimes the star can’t believe how lucky he has been.

“There was a point where I was like, ‘I need to write a sad song,’ because it was such a positive time in my life,” he explained to British magazine OK!

“I was going though recovery with this amazing girl and she made being in bed so much easier…”

The 23-year-old revealed many of the tracks on his upcoming, as-yet-untitled album are about Jordin.

While a wedding is “on the cards” for the pair, Jason likes to keep the details of their relationship private.

“I took her to McDonald’s and let her supersize her fries,” he joked when asked about his most romantic gesture.

“I don’t know; I like to keep that just to ourselves.”

Jason released his self-titled first album in 2010, when he was just 20 years old.

Suffering such a scary accident has made him grow up a lot faster than expected.

“Before, I’d wake up after an hour of sleep because I’d been out the whole night and walk into the airport like a zombie because I was hungover,” he admitted.

“That happened over and over again. It was too much. I was on autopilot. I started doing this at 19 which was a party age. I was supposed to be partying in college, but instead I was an international name.”
