Randy Travis had surgery on his heart, his sister-in-law has confirmed.
Randy Travis has undergone heart surgery.
The country singer was rushed to hospital in Dallas on Sunday after suffering problems with his heart. He has developed complications from viral cardiomyopathy, which is a weakening of heart muscles caused by infection.
His condition is known to be serious and his sister-in-law Teresa Traywick has now discussed his treatment.
“We have been told he has had surgery,” the wife of Randy’s brother Ricky Traywick told People magazine. “Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family.”
Earlier today TMZ reported Randy’s family and friends are deeply concerned about his progress. Teresa has given some insight into what is going on within Randy’s inner circle.
“Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps,” she said. “My prayers are with them. That’s all I can say right now.”
The 54-year-old star had a show booked for Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, South Dakota, on Wednesday but it has now been cancelled.
Fans flocked to Twitter to send well-wishes to the star after his representative made the announcement yesterday.
Among those to write messages was fellow country music star Tracy Lawrence. “Sending a get well message out to my buddy @randytravis tonight. Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery (sic),” he wrote.
Randy is understood to have recently completed a court-ordered rehab stint following a drink driving incident last year. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 30 days in rehab, 100 hours of community service and fined $2,000 in relation to the charge. The star’s jail time has been waived as long as he stays out of trouble for two years.
