Rihanna: I never asked to be role model

Rihanna has responded to an article calling her a "toxic" role model for young girls.

Rihanna is too busy working on her “own sh*t” to worry about being a role model.

Yesterday British newspaper The Daily Mail published an article by Liz Jones in which she criticised the Barbadian singer for her raunchy outfits, public support of marijuana and hedonistic lifestyle.

The 25-year-old has now hit back on Instagram, posting an unflattering image of the journalist and claiming she never signed up to be a positive example for others.

“I don’t pretend that I’m like you, i just live… My life!! And I don’t know why y’all still act so surprised by any of it!! “Role Model” is not a position or title that I have ever campaigned for, so chill wit dat! I got my own f**ked up sh*t to work on, I’ll never portray that as perfect, but for right now it’s ME!! Call it what ya want!! Toxic was cute, Poisonous Pop Princess had a nice ring to it, just a lil wordy! And P.S. my first American Vogue cover was in 2011…APRIL!!! #ElizabethAnnJones (sic)," she wrote on the picture sharing site.

In the article, Liz claims Rihanna’s former polished image was all about trying to land a Vogue cover, but mistakenly said she appeared on the front for the first time in November last year.

She also cited the singer’s on/off relationship with Chris Brown, who assaulted her in 2009, along with her Twitter pictures of money and marijuana as reasons why Rihanna is a bad role model.

The star dismissed the claims as “bitter” and advised Liz to do her research.

LOL!!!! My money got a bad habit of p**sing people off!! If you sincerely wanna help little girls more than their own parents do, here’s a toxic tip: don’t be amateur with your articles, you sound bitter!” she wrote.

“What’s all this about hair and nails and costumes and tattoos?? ….That sh*t ain’t clever!!! That sh*t ain’t journalism! That’s a sad sloppy menopausal mess!!! Nobody over here acts like they’re perfect! (sic)”

Rihanna played in Amsterdam as part of her Diamonds World Tour last night and posted a picture of herself wearing a T-shirt with a marijuana leaf logo afterwards.
