Channing Tatum says he gets excited about his infant daughter’s excrement and discusses what it is like being a new father.
Channing Tatum becomes ecstatic when his daughter “poos”.
The 33-year-old actor and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum welcomed their first child Everly on May 31.
In a joint interview with his White House Down co-star Jamie Foxx, Channing shared with Extra his experience of being a new father.
“You’re not gonna do anything for the first six months you’re just like, ‘Can I have the baby at some point today?’” he laughed.
“You’re never gonna be so excited when something poos, cause it’s like, ‘Aw yeah, I’m in the game!’ Let me have it, give it to me and then you give it back to her cause you know you don’t really do very much.”
Jamie is father to two teenage girls of his own.
As a veteran parent, he offers his co-star clear advice on how to guide children.
“All the stuff that your parents did to you, you’re gonna try it but it’s not gonna work,” Jamie said.
“You’re gonna learn on the fly… all of this stuff that your parents did to you. So you be the parent, you be the father and you be the friend… keep the doors open so they can come talk to you.”
Channing has spoken previously about his experience of taking prescription drugs Dexedrine and Adderall as a child.
He told Vanity Fair magazine this medication made him feel like a “zombie”.
The star wants to take a different parenting approach with his daughter, but he realises that his parents raised him the best way they knew how.
“I don’t think you can prepare. It’s a bit of a freestyle,” he contemplated.
“[My parents raised me] for better and worse. They weren’t perfect. I don’t know anyone who did have perfect parents. It’s provided me with lessons I’ll try to improve upon when I’m up to bat. I’m just going to be a good friend to my kid. One thing I definitely want to change is that whole ‘I don’t want you to make the same mistakes’ mentality. My dad didn’t have much money growing up; he didn’t have much of an education. He forced that on me, and I didn’t want it.”
