Tatum wants to be ‘male Jennifer Lawrence’

Channing Tatum looks up to Jennifer Lawrence so much he “wouldn’t mind” being her male counterpart.

Channing Tatum would like to model his career after Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence.

The 33-year-old former stripper rose to fame in dance movie Step Up and has carved out an acting career taking on the role of the Hollywood hunk in films like Magic Mike and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

The actor now says he’s interested in pursuing deeper subject matters in his work.

Jennifer won an Oscar this year for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and Channing looks up to her.

The star admits he would welcome comparisons between them.

“I wouldn’t mind being the male Jennifer Lawrence,” he revealed in the July issue of America’s Cosmo Guy.

“I think she’s incredibly cool.”

Channing may not have taken home an Academy Award this year but he was awarded the title Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine last November.

He insists that accolade won’t go to his head.

“My friends keep me grounded. It’s embarrassing to tell you how much my friends make fun of me,” he laughed.

Channing for the moment is focused on his growing family with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum. The Step Up co-stars are expecting their first child together this year.

Channing and Jenna have been together almost eight years now.

The father-to-be says communication is the key to their relationship.

“You have to want it,” he explained. “Jenna’s and my thing is checking in with each other all the time, like ‘On a scale from one to 10, how much do you love me right now?’ And you gotta be honest, and you’ve got to want an honest answer.”
