Reese Witherspoon apologises for arrest

Reese Witherspoon has issued an apology after her arrest for disorderly conduct on Friday.

Reese Witherspoon is “deeply embarrassed” following her arrest for disorderly conduct.

The Hollywood actress was briefly jailed on Friday after her husband Jim Toth was taken into custody for DUI in Atlanta, Georgia, in the early hours.

Reese was also handcuffed at the scene after the mother-of-three entered into a verbal disagreement with the arresting officer and ignored his request to stay inside the vehicle.

The actress has now issued a statement apologising for her behaviour.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse,” she explained.

“I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behaviour.”

According to Variety, Reese was handcuffed after becoming increasingly agitated by the situation.

The report details how the actress allegedly resisted requests by the officer as her husband was put under arrest.

“Mrs. Witherspoon asked, ‘Do you know my name?’ I answered, ‘No, I don’t need to know your name.’ I then added, ‘right now.’ Mrs. Witherspoon stated, ‘You’re about to find out who I am,’” she is quoted as saying.

Jim reportedly blew .139 on a Breathalyser test at the scene. Georgia’s legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit is .08.

He also faces a second charge of failure to maintain a lane while driving.

The couple have a court appearance scheduled for Monday morning at Atlanta Municipal Court.

Reese is currently in the city filming civil war drama The Good Lie.
