Gwyneth Paltrow has branded her Iron Man co-star Robert Downey Jr. a “wimp” for making a big deal out of wearing a superhero suit.
Gwyneth Paltrow says Robert Downey Jr. is a “wimp” for “crying” while wearing his Iron Man suit.
The actress is currently promoting the third instalment in the superhero franchise. Gwyneth’s character Pepper Potts dons the special suit In Iron Man 3 and the star feared the worst before filming because her co-star made such a big deal out of it. However, she was pleasantly surprised when the time came for her to slip into the bulky outfit.
“I get to do a bit of action and I get to wear the Iron Man suit for a while – it’s very cool. It’s quite cumbersome but not so bad. I thought it was going to be terrible because in the first two movies Robert would put on the suit and start sweating, he’d have a nervous breakdown and would meditate and cry. He was in hell,” Gwyneth laughed during an interview on The Graham Norton Show, which will be broadcast in the UK on Friday. “So, I was like, ‘Wow, I’d better start mentally preparing myself for the suit,’ and I put it on and was like, ‘This guy is a wimp, it’s really not that bad.”’
Gwyneth went on to reveal that her son Moses is a “big fan” of the movies. The actress relished gauging her son’s reaction when she appeared in the Iron Man suit.
“I’ll never forget his face when he saw me walk out in the suit. It was a really good moment,” she smiled.
Gwyneth, who raises two children with her husband Chris Martin, also says her son is starting to understand what his mother does for a living.
She recalled that Moses hoped her appearance in the Iron Man series would impress one of his favourite singers.
“I love watching his seven-year-old brain put together who I am. We were at a Justin Bieber concert and Moses said, ’Maybe Justin knows who you are from Iron Man,’” Gwyneth revealed.
Gwyneth is renowned for her impressive exercise ethic and toned physique. The 40-year-old star works out with celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson and revealed she has to train “all the time” to maintain her figure.
The prospect of certain revealing scenes in Iron Man 3 helped to motivate the star.
“I’ve got to try and keep this thing together. I’m 40, I’ve had two kids and they’re making me take my shirt off in Iron Man.”
