Malin Åkerman: Motherhood is a joy

New mom Malin Åkerman loves her baby son “more than life itself”.

Malin Åkerman says becoming a mom is the “biggest joy” of her life.

The 34-year-old actress and her husband Roberto Zincone welcomed a baby boy into the world on Tuesday. They have now announced their firstborn is called Sebastian and Malin is smitten.

“My husband and I welcomed our beautiful, healthy baby boy to this world this morning! Biggest joy of my life!!! #lovemykid,” Malin wrote on her Twitter page.

“PS and his name is … Sebastian Zincone :) )) Love him more than life itself!! #whatafeeling !!! (sic).”

The new arrival comes just days after the Swedish-Canadian star was spotted rubbing her large baby bump as she went for lunch in Los Angeles.

Malin has clearly been embracing her nesting urges – last month she was seen with her Italian musician spouse visiting a hardware store in West Hollywood.

The pair left with two cans of paint, with Malin also splashing out on some pictures frames during their outing.

Malin and Roberto, who was the drummer in alternative rock band The Petalstones, have been married for six years.

They first met in 2003 while playing in the band together, but had to communicate via a dictionary as Roberto spoke little English at the time. They fell in love and went on to wed in a romantic ceremony in Sorrento, Italy, in 2007.

In the early stages of her pregnancy, Malin confessed that she and Roberto were struggling to agree on possible baby boy names.

“[We’re] still debating if we want to find out [the sex] or keep it a surprise… we’re both really eager… but we haven’t quite made that decision yet,” she explained. "We’re all set on the girls’ names but the boys’ names we have a difference of opinions.”

Malin will next be seen in the action-thriller The Numbers Station, which is due for release in the US later this month.
