Pete Wentz: Fans sent me razor blades

Pete Wentz has revealed the strangest gift a fan ever sent him.

Pete Wentz once received “bloody razor blades” from a fan.

The Fall Out Boy bassist rose to fame with his bandmates Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley after hits like Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down and Dance, Dance.

The boys are back after a temporary hiatus and Pete admits their popularity has led to some pretty strange gifts from followers in the past.

“I got bloody razor blades! Yes, [it was when I had the emo hair]. I’m doing layers [in my hair] next!” he laughed to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.

After releasing fourth album Folie à Deux the band took a break in 2009, but reformed this year with new disc Save Rock and Roll, due out on April 15.

Lead singer Patrick revealed what inspired the hiatus.

“[It was a] holiday from our friends!” he joked.

“We were just tired; we had been touring pretty hard. I had just graduated high school. It was the week after I graduated that we started touring; it was probably like eight years through. It felt gradual, but when I think about it, for the first four years of touring we played 300-odd shows a year.”

New album Save Rock and Roll includes track Rat a Tat, featuring Courtney Love.

Patrick admits it’s an unusual choice, but one that works.

“On paper I think people would have mixed feelings about that one,” he admitted.

“But I was like, ‘Well, let’s just hear this,’ and it was so good and when I heard it back I was like, ‘I love this.’”
