James Franco: I'm friends with Hathaway

James Franco admits he hasn’t talked to his Oscars host Anne Hathaway “in a while”.

James Franco insists he has “made up” with Anne Hathaway following their heavily-criticised Oscars hosting gig.

The Hollywood stars largely failed to impress when they presented the Academy Awards in 2011. Despite the difficulty they had with hosting duties, James is still on good terms with Anne – but admits they haven’t spoken for a while.

The actor appeared on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show when he discussed the ill-fated event.

“I’m happy to revisit this, but you’re going to have to take the lead,” James told Howard. "She does not want me to talk about this, but OK…

“We haven’t talked in a while… Anne and I made up, by the way. Let’s just get that on the record.

“It was a really hard time after the Oscars. She wasn’t mad at me, I don’t think… she didn’t say she was mad at me for what happened… The critics were so nasty.”

Howard then quizzed James on the negativity surrounding Anne during the recent awards season. The actress took home a clutch of prizes, including the best supporting actress trophy at the Oscars for her performance in Les Misérables, and appeared to irritate some people with her gushy acceptance speeches.

When Howard claimed she was a “goody-two-shoe actress” and it is “fun to hate her”, James refused to be drawn into the debate, but admitted he could see why she might provoke such a reaction.

“Yeah, I’m not an expert on Hatha-haters, but I think maybe that’s what triggers it,” he replied. “I’m going to have to read a bunch of quotes of like, ‘Oh, James is still talking about the Oscars!’ You guys are the ones that initiated it.”

James is currently enjoying box office success with Oz the Great and Powerful. He would love to follow in Anne’s footsteps and win an Oscar one day, but accepts it won’t be an easy dream to fulfil.

“It’s great to be recognised and it’s great to be recognised by your peers, but the situation you get into when you’re an Oscar hopeful, it’s like running for office… but there’s no ticket to run on,” he explained.

The 34-year-old star also addressed reports that he once turned down sex with troubled actress Lindsay Lohan.

James was reluctant to go into too much detail about the events, and was shocked when the rumours surfaced.

“I don’t want to like brag about it. I don’t know how that got out,” he added. “She was having issues even then, so you feel weird. Honestly, she was a friend. I’ve met a lot of people that are troubled and sometimes you don’t want to do that.”

James went on to reveal he is currently on the dating scene and is hoping to find someone to have a “long-term” relationship with.
