Olivia Wilde confesses she is “always apologising” for doing something goofy.
The 29-year-old actress stars alongside Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi and Steve Carell in upcoming comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Olivia portrays clumsy assistant Jane in the movie that centres on an intense feud between magicians.
Olivia can relate to her self-conscious character, although she differs from Jane in that she’s “a bit of a ham onstage.”
“I have awkward moments,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I swear I spend most of my life like Larry David. I’m always apologising for hugging people inappropriately or tripping over things.
“I can certainly empathise with stage fright.”
Olivia is inspired by her persona Jane’s “ugly duckling story”.
Jane became Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton’s assistant after being randomly selected from the audience to take part in a trick.
“That was a really fun moment because I came up with the idea that she would have crippling stage fright,” Olivia explained.
“If she didn’t get pushed out onstage, she might never have gotten to achieve her dream.”
Out of all her co-stars, Olivia is convinced that Steve Buscemi would be the best person to be trapped on a desert island with.
“I think Steve Buscemi is so surprising in his talents,” she mused.
“He can play a maniacal killer in Fargo, he can be a gangster in Boardwalk Empire, he can be a magician in this film. So who’s to say he’s not also a spear fisherman?”
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone will reach American cinemas Friday.
