Beyonce Knowles is rumoured to be among performers at the 2013 Academy Awards.
Producers for the event confirmed on Friday plans for a large-scale production number paying tribute to movie musicals of the last decade.
Bill Condon’s 2006 film Dreamgirls, starring Beyonce alongside Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose and Eddie Murphy, will be featured in the act.
“The musical as a motion picture genre has had a remarkable renaissance in the last decade,” Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement.
Rob Marshall’s 2002 film Chicago, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger, will also feature, as will this year’s best picture nominee, Les Miserables.
Chicago won six Oscars at the Hollywood prize-giving in 2003, including best picture.
Les Mis is up for eight Academy Awards this year, including nods for best picture, best actor for Hugh Jackman and best supporting actress for Anne Hathaway.
Dreamgirls was also up for eight in 2007. The film took home two awards, including best supporting actress for Jennifer Hudson.
The movie musical production will mount at the Oscars in Los Angeles on February 24.
A performance for Beyonce would come amid controversy for the star.
The 31-year-old Grammy winner made headlines this week when she was accused of lip-synching at Monday’s inauguration ceremony for US President Barack Obama.
An audio engineer for the musical programme has denied the allegation.
Beyonce is also scheduled to perform at America’s Super Bowl half-time show on February 3.
It is rumoured she will be joined by Destiny’s Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland.
Beyonce had not commented on the reports at press time.
