Drew Barrymore is glad she took time to reflect in solitude before transforming her life.
The 37-year-old actress and her husband Will Kopelman welcomed their first child, daughter Olive, at the end of September last year. Drew and Will tied the knot in June 2011 after spending over a year together.
Before she hooked up with Will, Drew took some time out from the movie business to visit India.
The star is elated that she went on that journey of self-discovery.
“It freaked me out. I was afraid to let go,” she explained to Good Housekeeping.
“But with great risk comes great reward.
“Had I not carved out that time for myself, I don’t know if I’d be as happy trying to figure out what makes my husband happy and how to be a good mom. I needed to be on my own and do my own thing.”
Drew was happy to be out of the public eye for most of last year.
While she was expecting, the actress couldn’t help but tidied up compulsively.
“I didn’t go out for like six or seven months. It was really nice to just get quiet,” she recalled.
“I cleaned out every single drawer in my house. I went through storage units. That’s how I lived my days. They say cats run around shredding paper before they’re about to give birth. That’s exactly how I was.”
