Leonardo DiCaprio gave Kate Winslet away when she married in secret earlier this month.
The Hollywood stars have been close friends for years, since working together on the 1997 blockbuster movie Titanic. Kate decided she wanted Leonardo to play an integral role when she wed business tycoon Richard Branson’s nephew Ned RocknRoll in New York.
“Kate and Ned got married in a really romantic and private ceremony. They had been planning it for a while. They are both so happy and very much in love. Kate is very private and didn’t want anyone to know,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. “She asked if Leo would give her away because they are best friends.”
Only a handful of people – including Kate’s two children Mia and Joe – attended the ceremony, which is believed to have taken place in a converted barn.
It appears that not even Kate’s parents realised she was planning to tie the knot.
When her father Roger was quizzed about the covert nuptials, he said, “What are you going on about?”
Ned’s dad Robert seemed equally as confused by the wedding rumours.
“Nothing would surprise me with those two,” he replied when asked if he knew the pair had got married.
Sources close to Kate and Ned insist the pair are a perfect match. Kate was apparently beaming as Leonardo gave her away, and they are believed to have been planning the ceremony for some time.
“Kate has never looked so happy. Since she and Ned got together it has been full steam ahead,” an insider revealed. “Marriage has always been on the cards and they’ve been talking about doing it for the last couple of months.”
The 37-year-old actress’ spokeswoman confirmed last night that Kate has married for the third time.
Kate and Ned – born Abel Smith – began dating last year after they met while staying at his uncle Richard’s private Necker Island. They secretly got engaged this summer.
