Britain’s Prince William has been seen visiting the Duchess of Cambridge in hospital where she is being treated with intense morning sickness.
The royal couple announced they are expecting a baby yesterday, following weeks of speculation that Catherine is pregnant.
The news came after the duchess was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in central London suffering from Hyperemesis gravidarum, which is an acute type of morning sickness affecting just two per cent of pregnant women.
She has been hooked up to a drip to ensure she doesn’t become dehydrated and will remain in the clinic for a few days. Sources told British newspaper The Daily Mail she is responding well to treatment and there is “no cause for alarm”.
William, 30, was seen visiting his wife at the hospital, wearing a simple grey sweater, striped shirt and beige trousers.
The 30-year-old duchess was apparently taken to the medical centre by William shortly after lunch time on Monday. The couple then took the decision to publicly announce the pregnancy, although Catherine is thought to be just eight weeks along.
According to The Daily Mail the royal pair had “no plans whatsoever” to confirm Catherine is expecting so early. They are thought to have only recently found out themselves and had hoped to wait to make the public announcement until she was 12 weeks along.
The couple wanted to share their happy news with family over Christmas, with William’s father Prince Charles and grandmother Queen Elizabeth II only being told two hours before yesterday’s announcement.
William’s brother Prince Harry is currently serving with the army in Afghanistan and has been given the news via email.
Catherine’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton apparently learnt about the new addiction to the family over the weekend, after the royal became ill while visiting them in Berkshire, UK.
A friend of the couple recently insisted Catherine was pregnant, while both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been open about their desire to have a family.
The new arrival will be third in line to the throne.
