Rita Ora leads Urban Music Award nominations

Rita Ora leads nominations for the European Urban Music Awards (UMAs) with seven nods.

The ‘R.I.P.’ hitmaker is up for Best Newcomer, Artist of The Year, Best International Artist, Best Music Video for ‘R.I.P.’, Best Single for ‘Hot Right Now’, and Best Album for her debut release, ‘Ora’ at the awards, which will take place in London.

Emeli Sande follows closely behind with five nominations – for Artist of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Female Act, Best R&B Act and Best Collaboration – and ‘This Is Love’ singer Eva Simons is also up for fiveprizes.

Speaking of her nominations for Best Newcomer, Best Female Act, Artist of the Year, Best R&B Act and Best Single, Eva said: ‘’I am thrilled to be nominated and thanks to all the fans for nominating me on the 10th Anniversary of the UMAs’’.

JLS – who were promoted by the awards in 2007, before they shot to fame on ‘The X Factor’ – are ‘’very excited’’ to be up for three prizes: Best Group, Best R&B Act and Best Music Video for ‘Hottest Girl in the World’.

They said in a statement: ‘’The UMAs supported us when we were unknown. The Urban Music Awards do all they can to promote and invest in talented artists still in their early days of the industry. We are very excited and thankful to be nominated’’.

To celebrate their 10th Anniversary, the UMAs have teamed up with sponsor Zuricom, who will present the winner of each category with a limited-edition Swarovski diamond-encrusted UMA Tablet PC.

Voting for the awards is open from now until November 29 at www.urbanmusicawards.net.
