Run-DMC are reuniting.
The hip-hop stars will perform for the first time in over a decade when they take to the stage at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas, which takes place from November 2-4.
The two surviving members of the ’It’s Tricky’ hitmakers – Joseph ‘Run’ Simmons and Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels – will headline the main stage at the music event 10 years after they retired the group when their DJ, Jason ‘Jam Master Jay’ Mizell, was tragically killed.
Festival producer James Moody said in a statement: ‘’We couldn’t be more excited. Run-DMC is one of our favourite bands, and one of the most influential groups of all time.
’’We never thought that we would get to see [them] play live, much less play in Austin at our festival.
‘’This is as big as it gets. We are so proud to be working with them.’’
Festival organisers are planning to donate some of the proceeds from the spectacle to the JMJ Foundation for Music, which helps to give children and young adults access to the arts regardless of their social status.
Other performers at the festival – which is in its seven year – include Atlas Sound, Rakim, Against Me!, The Head and the Heart and Danny Brown, with the full lineup set to be announced on Thursday (12.07.12).
Run-DMC have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and are well known for hits such as ’It’s Like That’ and ‘Walk This Way’.
